SmoothEdge and our Circular Goal.
Every year, millions of glass bottles end up in landfills, contributing to environmental pollution. At SmoothEdge, we believe there’s a better way. By upcycling waste bottles into stylish glassware, we’re helping to reduce waste and support a more sustainable, circular economy.
What Is the Circular Economy?
The circular economy is all about minimising waste and making the most of resources. Instead of throwing things away after one use, materials are reused, recycled, and repurposed. Upcycling - turning discarded items into new, valuable products—plays a key role in this system.
How Upcycling Glass Bottles Helps
Glass takes thousands of years to break down naturally. By collecting and transforming used bottles into handcrafted glasses, vases, and candles, we extend the life of these materials and reduce the demand for new glass production. This saves energy, lowers carbon emissions, and cuts down on landfill waste.
Our Process
At SmoothEdge, we carefully collect, clean, cut, and smooth each bottle by hand. The result is premium, unique glassware that tells a story - perfect for both everyday use and special occasions.
Our Future Goals
While upcycling is at the heart of what we do, we’re always looking for ways to improve. We’re exploring ways to increase our production capacity, which would help reduce costs and make upcycled glassware more affordable and accessible. Additionally, we have a long-term goal of introducing a return deposit scheme (RDS), starting locally and gradually expanding nationwide. This would encourage customers to return used bottles, helping to keep materials in circulation. However, this idea is still in the early stages and would require additional capital to bring to life.
Why It Matters
Choosing upcycled products is a simple yet powerful way to support sustainability. By giving waste materials a new purpose, we help reduce the environmental impact of glass production and move closer to a zero-waste future.
At SmoothEdge, we’re proud to be part of this movement - and we’re excited to see what the future holds.
